d6469b3980 arm64 universal binaries redux
Introduce the armv8-universal target. 🥴

The entry point is essentially the same as x86's, except we no longer have access to `__builtin_cpu_supports` so instead we need an OS-specific query for whether we support dotprod. The Makefile is modified to support both universal builds.

If in the future we add more ARM targets, such as SVE, we'll need to add qemu to the RUN_PREFIX in CI, because currently we assume (for PGO purposes) that the CI host supports all the used ARM instructions.

### clang/Windows

The painful part here is clang on Windows, which, until arm64 mingw is stabilized, is required for targeting arm64. This PR also gets it to work for x86. In the Makefile this setup corresponds to `use_lto_emit_asm=yes`.

In particular, `--defsym` and `--save-temps` are not supported by `lld-link`, and objcopy `--rename-section` doesn't work on COFF binaries because of how section names work there.
- `--defsym` is needed to define `main` for PGO purposes and assigns it to the namespaced, per-arch main function. Instead, we define `main` in `main.cpp` so that the compilation is successful, then delete it before the final link.
- Instead of `--save-temps` to get the LTO intermediate object, we pass `--lto-emit-asm` to the linker, which outputs `stockfish.exe.lto.s`.
- Finally, we have a small AWK script to find the `.ctors` section, neuter it, and put start/stop symbols around it with the same naming scheme as ELF (`__start_*_init`/`__stop_*_init`).

I'm lowk a Windows programming noob so if there's simpler ways of going about this, I'd appreciate a pointer. @PikaCat-OuO + Codex used an approach that involved going in and modifying the LLVM bitcode, but that felt more complicated to me.

anematodeandJoost VandeVondele c3bcf74925 Universal binary for x86-64 Linux and Windows
We maintain support for quite a few x86 ISA extensions but relied on the end
user to select the binary that is best for their system. We can detect at
runtime which architecture to use, and ship a single binary (per OS/ISA
combination). This PR does so, maintaining performance.

This is what I've landed on after quite a few iterations. Basically, we build
each arch separately, use `cpuid` to select one, and jump to that arch's main
function. Some details:

- The preprocessor macro `UNIVERSAL_BINARY` is defined when building for the universal binary.

- The Makefile target `universal-object-[no]pgo` is added, which produces a `stockfish.o` in each arch's build directory.

- To prevent symbol collisions between the multiple builds, we `#define Stockfish Stockfish_[arch]`. Furthermore we wrap the `main` function in `namespace Stockfish { }`.

- We can still get PGO data by linking to a per-arch binary, with `Stockfish_x86_64_avx2::main` as `main`, and running `bench`.
    - For arches not supported by the host we can use Intel SDE – this is what we do in CI.

- When embedding the NNUE, we use C++26/C23 `#embed` instead of `INCBIN`. The issue with `INCBIN` is that it injects assembly directives that we have no control over.
    - To ensure there's only one copy of the networks in the final binary, we define the network data as weak symbols in each per-arch build. Then, in the final link, we add a special nnue_embed.cpp which provides strong symbols.
    - This does require GCC 15. Statically linking libstdc++ allows the binary to still run on older OSes though. And latest msys2 already does static linking + is based off GCC 15.2.0

building can be as simple as

make -j profile-build ARCH=x86-64-universal

or using the sde if the host doesn't support all architectures supported in the
universal binary, and the default host compiler is not recent enough.

make -j profile-build ARCH=x86-64-universal RUN_PREFIX="/path/to/sde -future --" CXX=g++-15

This change is also integrated in CI, so universal binaries are available as
downloadable artifacts.

Next we could also do ARM64, especially Android (all Apple silicon users use
the same binary). It also might be worth getting this to work with clang.

+1 8e5392d79a Update NNUE architecture to SFNNv10 with Threat Inputs and net nn-49c1193b131c.nnue
This commit introduces Full Threat Input features, which are a subset of Piece(Square)-Piece(Square) pairs. In any given position, the active features consist of pairs where the second piece’s square lies in the attack set of the first piece. This is an extremely simplified explanation that leaves out many details. The already-used HalfKAv2_hm feature set completes the input features.
Minor quantization changes have also been made.

The net nn-49c1193b131c.nnue was trained by vondele using the following setup: https://github.com/vondele/nettest/blob/7de71238e9b295e3f88ed7c9c5936af632c9b981/threats.yaml

A graphical version of an earlier scheme (with less refinement) that illustrates the core concepts can be found attached.

69a01b88f3 Use shared memory for network weights
This enables different Stockfish processes that use the same weights to use the
same memory. The approach establishes equivalence by memory content, and is
compatible with NUMA replication. The benefit of sharing is reduced memory usage
and a speedup thanks to improved (inter-process) caching of the network in the
CPUs cache, and thus reduced bandwidth usage to main memory. Even though this
change doesn't benefit a user running a single process, this helps on fishtest
or e.g. for Lichess, when multiple games run concurrently, or multiple
positions are analyzed in parallel.

This concept was probably first introduced in the Monty engine
(https://github.com/official-monty/Monty/pull/62), after a discussion in
https://github.com/official-stockfish/fishtest/issues/2077 on the issue of
memory pressure. Measurements based on Torch
(https://github.com/user-attachments/files/21386224/verbatim.pdf) further
suggested that large gains were possible. Multiple other engines have
adopted this 'verbatim' format as well.

The implementation here adds the flexibility needed for SF, for example, retains
the ability to bundle compressed networks with the binary, to load nets by uci
option, and to distribute the shared nets to the proper NUMA region. This
flexibility comes with a fair amount of complexity in the implementation, such
as OS specific code, and fallback code.

For most users this should be transparent. However, for example, those running
docker containers should ensure the `--ipc` flag is set correctly, and
`--shm-size` is sufficiently large.

The benefits of this patch significantly depend on hardware, with systems with
many cores and a large (O(150MB), the net size) L3 cache benefitting typically
most. On such systems SF speedups (as measured via nps playing games with
large concurrency but just 1 thread) can be 38%, which results in master vs.
patch Elo which gains about 25 Elo.

```
   # PLAYER             :  RATING  ERROR   POINTS  PLAYED   (%)
   1 shared_memoryPR    :    24.8    1.9  39432.0   73728    53
   2 master             :     0.0   ----  34296.0   73728    47
```

In a multithreaded setup, where weights are already shared, that benefit is smaller,
for example on the same HW as above, but with 8t for each side.
```
   # PLAYER             :  RATING  ERROR  POINTS  PLAYED   (%)
   1 shared_memoryPR    :     5.2    3.5  9351.0   18432    51
   2 master             :     0.0   ----  9081.0   18432    49
```

On fishtest with a typical hardware mix of our contributors, the following was measured:

STC, 60k games
https://tests.stockfishchess.org/tests/view/69074a49ea4b268f1fac236c
Elo: 4.69 ± 1.4 (95%) LOS: 100.0%

Ptnml(0-2): 154, 6440, 16053, 7148, 205
nElo: 9.38 ± 2.8 (95%) PairsRatio: 1.12

To verify correctness with a single process on a NUMA architecture,
speedtest was used, confirming near equivalence:
```
master:        Average (over 10):  296236186
shared_memory: Average (over 10):  295769332
```
Currently, using large pages for the shared network weights is not always possible,
which can lead to a small slowdown (1-2%), in case a single process is run.

Disservin 299707d2c2 Split UCI into UCIEngine and Engine
This is another refactor which aims to decouple uci from stockfish. A new engine
class manages all engine related logic and uci is a "small" wrapper around it.

In the future we should also try to remove the need for the Position object in
the uci and replace the options with an actual options struct instead of using a
map. Also convert the std::string's in the Info structs a string_view.

Disservin 1a26d698de Refactor Network Usage
Continuing from PR #4968, this update improves how Stockfish handles network
usage, making it easier to manage and modify networks in the future.

With the introduction of a dedicated Network class, creating networks has become
straightforward. See uci.cpp:
```cpp
NN::NetworkBig({EvalFileDefaultNameBig, "None", ""}, NN::embeddedNNUEBig)
```

The new `Network` encapsulates all network-related logic, significantly reducing
the complexity previously required to support multiple network types, such as
the distinction between small and big networks #4915.

These global structures/variables add hidden dependencies and allow data
to be mutable from where it shouldn't it be (i.e. options). They also
prevent Stockfish from internal selfplay, which would be a nice thing to
be able to do, i.e. instantiate two Stockfish instances and let them
play against each other. It will also allow us to make Stockfish a
library, which can be easier used on other platforms.

For consistency with the old search code, `thisThread` has been kept,
even though it is not strictly necessary anymore. This the first major
refactor of this kind (in recent time), and future changes are required,
to achieve the previously described goals. This includes cleaning up the
dependencies, transforming the network to be self contained and coming
up with a plan to deal with proper tablebase memory management (see
comments for more information on this).

The removal of these global structures has been discussed in parts with
Vondele and Sopel.

DisservinandJoost VandeVondele 2d0237db3f add clang-format
This introduces clang-format to enforce a consistent code style for Stockfish.

Having a documented and consistent style across the code will make contributing easier
for new developers, and will make larger changes to the codebase easier to make.

To facilitate formatting, this PR includes a Makefile target (`make format`) to format the code,
this requires clang-format (version 17 currently) to be installed locally.

Installing clang-format is straightforward on most OS and distros
(e.g. with https://apt.llvm.org/, brew install clang-format, etc), as this is part of quite commonly
used suite of tools and compilers (llvm / clang).

Additionally, a CI action is present that will verify if the code requires formatting,
and comment on the PR as needed. Initially, correct formatting is not required, it will be
done by maintainers as part of the merge or in later commits, but obviously this is encouraged.

Linmiao XuandStéphane Nicolet 0ad9b51dea Remove classical psqt
Based on vondele's deletepsqt branch:
https://github.com/vondele/Stockfish/commit/369f5b051

This huge simplification uses a weighted material differences instead of
the positional piece square tables (psqt) in the semi-classical complexity
calculation. Tuned weights using spsa at 45+0.45 with:

int pawnMult = 100;
int knightMult = 325;
int bishopMult = 350;
int rookMult = 500;
int queenMult = 900;
TUNE(SetRange(0, 200), pawnMult);
TUNE(SetRange(0, 650), knightMult);
TUNE(SetRange(0, 700), bishopMult);
TUNE(SetRange(200, 800), rookMult);
TUNE(SetRange(600, 1200), queenMult);

The values obtained via this tuning session were for a model where
the psqt replacement formula was always from the point of view of White,
even if the side to move was Black. We re-used the same values for an
implementation with a psqt replacement from the point of view of the side
to move, testing the result both on our standard book on positions with
a strong White bias, and an alternate book with positions with a strong
Black bias.

We note that with the patch the last use of the venerable "Score" type
disappears in Stockfish codebase (the Score type was used in classical
evaluation to get a tampered eval interpolating values smoothly from the
early midgame stage to the endgame stage). We leave it to another commit
to clean all occurrences of Score in the code and the comments.

The idea that this code could lead to further inputs to the NN or
search did not materialize. Now, after five releases, this PR removes
the classical evaluation from SF. Even though this evaluation is
probably the best of its class, it has become unimportant for the
engine's strength, and there is little need to maintain this
code (roughly 25% of SF) going forward, or to expend resources on
trying to improve its integration in the NNUE eval.

Indeed, it had still a very limited use in the current SF, namely
for the evaluation of positions that are nearly decided based on
material difference, where the speed of the classical evaluation
outweights its inaccuracies. This impact on strength is small,
roughly 2Elo, and probably decreasing in importance as the TC grows.

Potentially, removal of this code could lead to the development of
techniques to have faster, but less accurate NN evaluation,
for certain positions.

Stéphane NicoletandJoost VandeVondele 406979ea12 Embed default net, and simplify using non-default nets
covers the most important cases from the user perspective:

It embeds the default net in the binary, so a download of that binary will result
in a working engine with the default net. The engine will be functional in the default mode
without any additional user action.

It allows non-default nets to be used, which will be looked for in up to
three directories (working directory, location of the binary, and optionally a specific default directory).
This mechanism is also kept for those developers that use MSVC,
the one compiler that doesn't have an easy mechanism for embedding data.

It is possible to disable embedding, and instead specify a specific directory, e.g. linux distros might want to use

nodchipandJoost VandeVondele 84f3e86790 Add NNUE evaluation
This patch ports the efficiently updatable neural network (NNUE) evaluation to Stockfish.

Both the NNUE and the classical evaluations are available, and can be used to
assign a value to a position that is later used in alpha-beta (PVS) search to find the
best move. The classical evaluation computes this value as a function of various chess
concepts, handcrafted by experts, tested and tuned using fishtest. The NNUE evaluation
computes this value with a neural network based on basic inputs. The network is optimized
and trained on the evalutions of millions of positions at moderate search depth.

The NNUE evaluation was first introduced in shogi, and ported to Stockfish afterward.
It can be evaluated efficiently on CPUs, and exploits the fact that only parts
of the neural network need to be updated after a typical chess move.
[The nodchip repository](https://github.com/nodchip/Stockfish) provides additional
tools to train and develop the NNUE networks.

This patch is the result of contributions of various authors, from various communities,
including: nodchip, ynasu87, yaneurao (initial port and NNUE authors), domschl, FireFather,
rqs, xXH4CKST3RXx, tttak, zz4032, joergoster, mstembera, nguyenpham, erbsenzaehler,
dorzechowski, and vondele.

This new evaluation needed various changes to fishtest and the corresponding infrastructure,
for which tomtor, ppigazzini, noobpwnftw, daylen, and vondele are gratefully acknowledged.

The first networks have been provided by gekkehenker and sergiovieri, with the latter
net (nn-97f742aaefcd.nnue) being the current default.

The evaluation function can be selected at run time with the `Use NNUE` (true/false) UCI option,
provided the `EvalFile` option points the the network file (depending on the GUI, with full path).

The performance of the NNUE evaluation relative to the classical evaluation depends somewhat on
the hardware, and is expected to improve quickly, but is currently on > 80 Elo on fishtest:

Marco CostalbaandJoost VandeVondele c527c3ad44 Fishtest Tuning Framework
The purpose of the code is to allow developers to easily and flexibly
setup SF for a tuning session. Mainly you have just to remove 'const'
qualifiers from the variables you want to tune and flag them for
tuning, so if you have:

int myKing = 10;
Score myBonus = S(5, 15);
Value myValue[][2] = { { V(100), V(20) }, { V(7), V(78) } };

and at the end of the update you may want to call
a post update function:

void my_post_update();

If instead of default Option's min-max values,
you prefer your custom ones, returned by:

std::pair<int, int> my_range(int value)

Or you jus want to set the range directly, you can
simply add below:

TUNE(SetRange(my_range), myKing, SetRange(-200, 200), myBonus, myValue, my_post_update);

And all the magic happens :-)

At startup all the parameters are printed in a
format suitable to be copy-pasted in fishtest.

In case the post update function is slow and you have many
parameters to tune, you can add:

UPDATE_ON_LAST();

And the values update, including post update function call, will
be done only once, after the engine receives the last UCI option.
The last option is the one defined and created as the last one, so
this assumes that the GUI sends the options in the same order in
which have been defined.

NoobyandStéphane Nicolet b9f1c9bf3f Clear TableBase mappings in Search::clear()
This patch will make possible to free mapped TB files with "ucinewgame" command.

We wrote this patch specifically to address a problem that arose while
running Stockfish with 7-piece tablebases as a kibitzer at TCEC for
extended periods of time across multiple games. It was noted that after
some time, the NPS of the kibitzing Stockfish (which is usually 3x faster
than the Stockfish actually competing) would drop precipitously, eventually
falling to preposterously low numbers until restarted.

Their eval bot basically inputs FEN, go infinite, stop and loop, it probably
didn't do ucinewgame either. As time goes it gradually slowed down and OS
starts to use swap, this is not reasonable since the engine only uses 16GB
hash and the machine has 1TB physical RAM and does nothing else.

Marco CostalbaandStéphane Nicolet 6413d9b1f9 Further documentation and coding style on TB code
This patch adds some documentation and code cleanup to tablebase code.

It took me some time to understand the relation among the differrent
structs, although I have rewrote them fully in the past. So I wrote
some detailed documentation to avoid the same efforts for future readers.

Also noteworthy is the use a standard hash table implementation with a
more efficient 1D array instead of a 2D array. This reduces the average
lookup steps of 90% (from 343 to 38 in a bench 128 1 16 run) and reduces
also the table from 5K to 4K
entries.

I have tested on 5-men and no functional and no slowdown reported. It
should be verified on 6-men that the new hash does not overflow. It is
enough to run ./stockfish with 6-men available: if it does not assert at
startup it means everything is ok with 6-men too.

EDIT: verified for 6-men tablebase by Jörg Oster. Thanks!

The heuristic to avoid thread binding if less than 8 threads are requested resulted in the first 7 threads not being bound.
The branch was verified to yield a roughly 13% speedup by @CoffeeOne on the appropriate hardware and OS, and an earlier version of this patch tested well on his machine:

To make sure all threads (including mainThread) are bound as soon as the total number exceeds 7, recreate all threads on a change of thread number.
To do this, unify Threads::init, Threads::exit and Threads::set are unified in a single Threads::set function that goes through the needed steps.
The code includes several suggestions from @joergoster.
